A Piece of My Heart Finds Its Voice
Welcome
My artistic voice is an intimate canvas where personal experience, the natural world, and the depths of my inner thoughts converge. Rather than prescribing fixed meanings, my work is expressive and open to fluid interpretation, allowing each viewer to find their own connection.
Raised in the rural Piedmont of North Carolina, I have long called the Blue Ridge Mountains near Asheville my home and creative sanctuary. My journey as an artist began in childhood when my uncle, Puryear Mims, introduced me to the world of sculpture. His larger than life presence not only introduced me to sculpture but also instilled in me a deep reverence for artistic expression, setting the foundation for my lifelong creative journey.
I have always been drawn to the old masters, deeply respecting classical styles while blending them with my evolving approach to create expressive works that are both timeless and personal. Among the many artists who influence me are Auguste Rodin, Henry Moore, Ursula von Rydingsvard, Alberto Giacometti, and Camille Claudel—Claudel’s passion, fortitude, and creativity I especially admire.
At the heart of my work is the intricate dance of love, resilience, and compassion, each a recurring motif. Though I have worked in clay, stone, and charcoal, wood is my true medium—malleable, organic, renewable, warm, and authentic. In the forest, my heart sings. In the silent language of trees, I listen. My passion lies in allowing the songs of Nature to be heard.
This is my voice—unflinchingly personal and deeply grateful for the privilege of transforming my inner world into tangible form.
